It's Hot In Florida

We finally made it to FL around 3 pm today. It's too hot down here, I think hotter than Philippines plus I am very sleepy. Kids are enjoying the water slide and pool so far. I can't wait to get back home. I am connected via WiFi right now. You should see what I look like right now, I look like I just got out of the shower. Too hot, did I say that already? I know, it's too hot.

Memorial Day Weekend

I know this is way too late, but I have a very good reason to be late. Ah, plain too busy grabbing opps everyday. Fathers day is coming I need some money to buy my DH a present. He was hinting that his phone is not holding charge anymore. Maybe I can let him pick an new one that is durable. All the phone he gets are all piece of you know what in my opinion.

I'm getting off the topic again (laugh). Anyway, we spend our Memorial Day at a Ron Paul picnic in a park somewhere in the boonies. Mind you all of my DC's are sick, it was tiring wiping noses (because we we're outside) covering vomits. Before the end of the day I was beat. Good thing Monday was holiday I had one day to rest and recuperate.

The date on my camera was wrong, don't pay attention to it.

Lost A Friend

Last night I was awaken by my 2nd DS complaining about an ear ache. I fall sleep on their bedroom waiting for my DH to get home. After taking care of him I went back to my/our (hub & I) bedroom and found my DH staring on the computer monitor with the bad look on his face. The look that he always give me when I've done something wrong.

It turns out that his friend of more than 25 year passed away last night (it was an accident). I thought he found something online about me and that he didn't like. Because of that look on his face. I feel bad about what happen to his friend and happy at the same time because I don't like to argue and fight with him, especially when he thinks its all my fault. I think we got so much fight like that and every time I see his face with that expression I know we are going to fight about something.

Thank goodness its nothing like that.

Win An iPod Nano

Did you win anything in your whole life? I won two times in my lifetime so far. First I won a free hat in 1994, I think. And then in 2007 I won a printer, 2 video cards, a wireless notebook presenter mouse, internet security adapter, notebook hard drive and a TV tuner card. All from the same company. I get so many emails from companies, and every time they have sweepstakes and the kind I never forget to enter. Specially the houses some company's giving away. All I have to do is put my name and address and I'm in. I don't mind losing either because I only put in a few minutes of my time to do it. But it feel so good when you win something for free. The winnings I mention above are all free. I may have to pay taxes at the end of the year but it was worth it. Interested on winning a contest, take this short survey and you are on your way. To take the survey, click here. Good luck to all.

Is Your Child Cereal Popular? (last part)

What Else Can You Eat For Breakfast?
Primary recommendation for Carb and Mixed nutritional types is to prepare and consume fresh vegetables juice, making sure to also eat the pulp. (it's loaded with so many valuable phytonutrients, it would be unwise to discard it.) Veggie juice is a really simple breakfast alternative, and suitable even for your youngest ones.

Juicing may not be the best option for Protein types, however, so if your child is a Protein type, you'd want to limit them to 10 ounces or less of raw juice each day, and restrict the vegetables to lower potassium varieties such as spinach and celery.

Is Your Kid's Cereal Popular? (part 4)

How Much Grain Does Your Child Need?
Grains are such common staples that most can't imagine them not being good for you. But all of these common items really should be avoided when planning your child's breakfast:

  • Doughnuts
  • Fruit juice and other sugary drinks
  • Waffles and pancakes
  • Bagels and toast (even whole grain organic types)
  • All cereals (even whole grains types)
Carb types can actually do well with grains, but remember; only about 15 percent of the population are carb types, at best. So for the majority, grains and cereals should be limited or avoided as much as possible. Why?

Because grains rapidly break down to sugar in your body, stimulating insulin production. So you're right back to the issue of too much sugar again.

Is Your Kid's Cereal Popular? (part 3)

Sugar Baby

According to this study, one serving of cereal equated to 11 percent of daily limit of added sugar for active boys, aged 14 to 18 years old, and astounding 92 percent of the daily intake for sedentary girls aged 9 to 13. The problem with feeding your child foods high in added sugar is twofold -- they contain little in terms of vitamins and minerals, and the calories they contain are not made up of important micronutrients needed for health and growth.

Reducing sugar intake should be on the top of your list regardless of whether your child is currently overweight or not, because it's been proven over and over that sugar increases insulin levels, which can lead to:

  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Weight gain
  • Premature aging, and more
In fact, sugar is bad for your health in so many ways. Having said that, completely eliminating sugar from your child's diet is probably not reasonable, or even necessary. While it clearly will decrease your child's health, sugar in moderation is likely not going to cause any significant damage.

What is moderation?

Well, something on the order of five pounds a year. This is considerably less than the average amount Americans consume, which is closer to 175 pounds per year. (That's a lot) Taking a close look at the sugar content of your child's cereal, which is consumed on daily basis, is therefore necessary. Just how much sugar are you feeding your child each day?

On 2005 study that analyzed the daily intake of 5,000 toddlers ranging in age from 2 to 5, found that, on average, 2 to 3 year olds consumed around 14 teaspoons of added sugar a day. This number jumped to 17 teaspoons daily among 4 to 5 year olds.

However, you should take things one step further than simply switching for a brand with lower sugar content. Why?

Because of the grain.

Black Friday Shopping

I know, its way too early about thinking of shopping for Christmas gifts. Have you heard about “the early bird gets the early worms”? If you want to get these thanksgiving deals you have to be in line as early as 3 or 4 in the morning to be the first one to grab it. That would not be possible or doable for me. I hate being out there in the cold, and people can get hurt in this places just to save money. Not to mention I don’t like to fight with anyone, I don’t think it’s worth it.

I rather stay home and shop online at http://www.black-riday.net. Have you heard of it? They give you the advantage by showing you all the of the Black Friday 2008 ads before anyone else. You don’t need to wait for your Thanksgiving Day newspaper. They offer direct links to each product so you can purchase the item online on Black Friday without having to stand in line at the store. I usually shop at Old Navy for my kids clothing, so I will definitely bookmark this site. They also have Amazon.com, Overstock.com, and few electronics store to choose from. Come visit the site and enter your email address to get notified when Black Friday ads are posted. And to see what other stores they have.

Is Your Kid's Cereal Popular? (part 2)

Studies have shown that eating breakfast can have beneficial effects on:

  • Appetite
  • Insulin resistance
  • Energy metabolism
However, feeding your child sugary kids-cereals is not the wisest or brightest breakfast choice. Kids' cereals are loaded with sugar and carbohydrates, neither of which benefits your child health. Obesity has become a major concern for American children, with sugar and carbohydrates being two of the major culprits contributing to this growing problem.

In the last two decades, prevalence of overweight adolescents has nearly tripled, and current statistics show 16 percent of children are overweight or obese. Overweight and obese children not only face a heightened risk of health problems --heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal problems, and type 2 diabetes, just to name a few -- but they are also likely to suffer from low self-esteem and depression as a emotional toll on a young child or teen.

DC's Stayed Home

I kept my DC's home from school today. My first grader was complaining about a headache when he woke up. And ask if he can stay home. Then my DD had a little fever last night so, I kept her home too.

It feels good not to worry if we can make it on time for school. They let me sleep a little longer and we're good the whole time. I guessed they really are not feeling very well. I kinda like it staying home and not getting out of pajama's the whole day...he he he.

Special Day Elegance

Planning for your special day is full of unexpected consequences. I still remember a funny wedding experienced I had on my wedding day. I didn't have the fancy wedding that most brides want. We had a very simple ceremony in a church with only the immediate family and friends. My fiancé at time and I drove to the church together and got dressed there. My sister/bridesmaid helped me take my stuff out of the car and she locked the door when she was done. Without our knowledge my fiancé jacket is still in the car, plus she didn't notice that the key is still in the ignition. To make the story short my fiancé had to unlock the car by using a wire hanger borrowed from the church coat closet. We have the picture to prove it.

Now let’s get back to 1st Class Wedding Invitations. Have you seen their collections? They are amazingly beautiful, and this is the one I would pick for my wedding. It would match the color of my bridesmaid gown and the lily's on my bouquet.

Have you notice the ZOOM feature in this site. This allows customers to see the quality of an invitation in great details. You can only find it here at 1st class wedding invitation. Check the site for more information.

Update (Unpredictable Weather)

My DD is feeling better today. She went to school this morning and made it to her appointment for orientation to the new school. From what I remember I thought the lady told us the appointment is for to tour the school, but when we got there she had given some questioners which she passed with flying colors. And the school nursed spoke to me about her allergic reaction to peanut butter.

I brought my youngest DS with us knowing we only have to walk around, boy was I wrong. The whole time my DD is getting tested all he wants to do is get out of that stroller and explore every corner of that school. He was whining the whole time, all I can do is roll him around to make him stop. I could have raised my voice on him already and smacked once if we are home. Of course I can't do that in public because all eyes will be on me...saying child abuse. And child services will be called in and have my child taken away from me. I hate the system, that is why teenagers knows how to make their parents shut up in this country. I know parents are not afraid of their children but the system, they don't want their children taken away from them. So, they do nothing to discipline.

Is Your Kid's Cereal Popular?

Breakfast cereals marketed the most aggressively to kids have the worst nutritional quality, according to the new analysis of 161 brands.

Children's cereals were classified as those that had a character on the box, toys or games inside, or the company's Web site listed the brand as a children's cereal.

Kids' cereals had more sugar, sodium, carbohydrate, and calories per gram than non-children's cereals, and less protein and fiber. Sugar accounted for more than one-third of the weight of children's cereals, on average, compared to less than one-quarter of the adult cereals.

Teary Eyes

My first grader had some kind of tea party at his classroom today. Parents and siblings are invited. I told him this morning that I can't come in to join him because we all have cough, cold and sore throat. Plus his only sister is home sick because she has a little temperature. It sound like he doesn't even know what I am talking about.

Fast forward to the present. He came home telling me that I should have been in his school for this tea party. Well, I would love to be there but what am I going to do with his siblings? He said daddy should have watched them. I told him that if daddy is home we are not having this conversation are we now? I also reminded him that I told him this morning that I will not be able to go. He almost cried and telling me that this occasion is only today. And I knew that, I don't think his teacher will appreciate me bringing sick kid to her class. I think his siblings would have enjoyed being with him in his school also.

I also feel bad because this morning I was thinking that maybe he will be the only one with no family in his class. I can't do everything, specially with no help. His father work hours is from 7 in the morning to 7 at night. So, I have to do everything by myself on those hours. There are more to come and hoping that next time I/we can go.

Unpredictable Weather

I never like Spring and Fall. It could be on it's best or worst. My DC's are sick again this week. They all have cold and cough because of unpredictable weather. Some days are nice and some days are not. Oh how I missed the tropical weather.

Not only that, if I live in the tropic right now I could have my vegetables garden all year round. I'm not saying I want to go home and live there. I don't think I will like it there anymore because of NPA but would like somewhere in South America like Costa Rica. My DH made a friend down there, plus Philippines is too far away from his family. Hawaii is out of the question because it's an island, can't leave the island unless we use a boat or a plane. Not to mention my DH gets sea sick.

But then again, that's still up in the air, nothing solid as of yet. But it would be nice to move down there, we can drive our vehicles to get there.

The Stark Museum

If you are planning a vacation this summer with your kids, check out The Stark Museum of Art. They are located in the City of Orange Texas by Texas Gulf Coast and have two-story facility contains a wide collection of artwork. They specialize on 19th and 20th American Western art and artifacts in the country. The Museum is founded by the Nelda C. and H. J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. Did you know that the Museum grounds cover an entire block and the building itself has a room for 15,000 square feet of exhibition space? That would take at least a day or so, just to look around or to see everything they have on display.

The Stark Museum of Art has an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures, with the contributions of artist such as: John Young-Hunter, H.S. “Andy” Anderson, Paul Kane, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Louis Prang, William Herbert Dunton, Buck McCain, Alexandre Hogue, Walter Ufer, Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, James Earle Fraser, William Robinson Leigh, John James Audubon and many more, I believe. They also have a huge collection of Native American Craftwork, Navajo rugs and blankets, and Pueblo pottery. Featured artwork by Maria Martinez reveals the skills of Native American Artist. Even if you are not an art person I think these are interesting.

Museums are the best place to be when raining outside. You will not get wet and you can spend the whole day admiring their collections of: Western Art conveys the artistic interpretation of the Western region, American Indian Art consist of objects created by the tribes of the Great Plains, Southwest, Eastern Woodlands and Northwest Coast, Decorative Arts features primarily glass and porcelain including the complete set of the United States in Crystal, and Rare Books and Manuscripts includes the rare work titled The Bird of America, Books of Hours and many more. I've Been Busy

Working in my garden, trying to space out the planting of all the seeds. Last week I planted two rows of everything and yesterday also. I don't want to harvest everything at once that is why I'm doing it this way.

Yesterday my ODS had a concert in his school. I even brought our laptop so I don't missed any opportunity from ppp. How sad is that, but I didn't get anything.

Today my youngest DS had a speech class and this evening my second DS had a spring chorus at his school. I think I would need another of me when they all grown up just to be every where with them.

Today it was all worth it because even with my busy schedule, I was able to grabbed my allowable post. Now, I'm off to reviews some sites.

The Lady In My Neighborhood

Well yesterday I heard a knocked at the door. I looked out the window and didn't see a car outside. So, I opened the door and there's an old lady there. She told me that she was house sitting across the street and wondering if she can use my phone to call her daughter.

I told here that I don't have a house phone and apologized, then close the door. I seen her a few times in my street. She use to walked up and down from the house across the street to 2 houses down because they are her relatives from what I gather from my teenage son.

Why does she wants to used my phone, mind you we never spoken before? When we moved here no one ever try to introduce themselves and welcome us to this street. She never once waved to us when we are outside. Now she wants to use my phone? How weird is that? I was thinking maybe she got paid to spy in our house and pretended to borrow the phone to see what we have inside. I don't know, or I am over acting about the whole thing he he he.

Anyway, after that I always locked my door whenever I leave because I don't know why all of sudden my neighbor will come and make excuses to come in. BTW, I don't have a house phone only cell phone and plus why she didn't go 2 houses down to make her phone call. Instead of knocking in strangers door to use one. It makes me think...hmmm.

Laser Eye Surgery

My husband wears glasses way before I met him. He's always been scared of anything to do with his body. He always think that he will fall into the small percentage of people having complications. And I can't ask him to have laser eye surgery, because I don't want to get blame if something doesn't go his way. Maybe we should start looking for something like Lasik in Walnut Creek in our area and put him at ease. Lasik Walnut Creek has performed more than 25,000 procedures. And they are certified by the nonprofit USAEyes.org Lasik patient advocacy. For more information visit LaserVue.com.

Not all soy is bad for us, the organic type is still good. I used to buy soy milk too, but now I will stick to raw milk instead. Soy milk has added hormones, they are bad, do not buy them. Try using rice milk instead or anything organic if you can't find raw milk on your area.

Vacation

I can't even remember when was the last time we went on vacation. All I remember was we had two children then. We can't really go on vacation now because my kids goes to a different school district and their vacation times are different. We have been to Niagara Falls (Canada side of course) a few times, Baltimore Maryland, and New York City. We always do it in the spare of a moment, well my husband does. Sometimes we will go for a drive and while driving he will say "let's go see this place, I haven't been there since I was a kid". And one of this place is New York City. We are only 45 minutes drive away from Manhattan. There are so many Things to do in New York City. Like climbing the Statue of Liberty, shopping, cruising and site seeing while riding a boat. I know there are a lot more but that's all come to mind right now he he he. We would stay in a hotel for a day and come home the next day since its just near. But not all of us are close by to a vacation spot. Use sightseeing tours for your next vacation. Specially if you are like me with kids, you need the professionals help to keep your children occupy while on vacation. I can't post any picture yet because I/we are the hosts. I have to wait for my FIL to give me the camera card or a copy first. Not sure when will that be :).

One thing to add, the birthday girl fell off the monkey bars. She is fine no broken bone or anything. And another thing, Happy Mothers Day to all moms.

Food Crisis

I read somewhere that millions of dollars funding the food crisis. Ok, who is paying for all of this? Who is paying the national debt of our country? The citizen of this country, you will see, we are going to pay $10 a gallon for gas. $8.50 of it will goes to pay our national debt. Americans has nothing to do with the national debt, the government of American people does.

Hydrogen power car will be useful right now. But then again you may get arrested if the government find out that you are not buying their gas to pay for their debt. Beautiful, isn't it? All about control.

And where did they pulled the tax rebate they are giving away? They printed more worthless paper money to give away. Our currency should have a gold backup. We don't have that anymore that is why the dollar worthless. Think of it as poker chips, we all have the chips but no real money to back it up.

Research the following: SAVE Act, Patriot Act, One World Government I have more will add them with my later post.

Drivers

Have you ever notice that when a car in front of you is going slow that they are on the cell phone chatting away. Or they pass you going 10 miles over your speed, then all of sudden you are passing them...reason talking on cell phones. Why is it that they slow down while talking on the phone? I don't because I have blue tooth and I pay more attention to the road than the people I'm talking to.

And why drivers used the left lane if they don't want to pass the drivers on the right side? It's very annoying specially when I am in the hurry. There's a Y on the road, you don't have a stop sign, why are you stopping? And don't give me a finger when I honk my horn on you. That means do not stop in the middle of the road, moving vehicles are using it.

I'm going way over the speed limit, stop tail getting me, passing lane is on the left. And it's a yield sign not a stop sign, it means proceed with caution.

New Pledge Of Allegiance

In This Life of Ours
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public school anymore because the word "God" is mentioned...a student in Arizona wrote:

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him Very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen
And the "unwed daddy," our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgment" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father."

Life of Ours Author

Mrs. Cheers, Keystone USA

"I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations. I have a continuing program of research (What mother doesn't?) in the laboratory and in the field (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (the whole darned family) and already have five credits (four sons & one daughter, 1 joined the working community, 4 were educated @ home ). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities (any mother care to disagree?), and I often work 14 hours a day (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers, and the rewards are more of a satisfaction than just money."
